Character name: Alpha
Fandom: Azrael's Edge
Timeline: Post-manga
Age: 22? I'm guessing around early to mid-twenties, at least.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: No magic, but he's a very good fighter, especially with swords. He knows how to clean weapons too, and is apparently a very good actor.
How would they use their abilities?: Alpha loves to fight. Strong opponents excite him. He knows not to just run around challenging people to fights though, which makes him that much more eager when an opportunity does arise. On that note, he's got a sense of justice and has nothing against, say, getting rid of corrupt officials. In a way that doesn't land him in jail. As for his acting skills, he likes to use them to play horribly dirty tricks on people for fun. For example, making his attendant think he's been eaten by cannibals.
Appearance: He's probably around 5'9" in height, and has a rather lean physique. He's got light green eyes and dark blueish/purplish hair (official art tends to lean more towards blue), tied back into a very long braid. He tends to wear his official blue mercenary outfit when going out, but he'll wear more casual clothes outside of work.
Background/Personality: Alpha is a member of the government-sanctioned mercenary unit Boreas. Together with his recently aquired attendant, Leto, he goes on various (violent) missions across the country.
Alpha is the kind of guy who does whatever he wants whenever he wants, with just enough self-restraint not to do things that would get him in a lot of trouble.
He's also somewhat of a lone wolf, something his having an attendant doesn't really change; an old woman of the Turana clan (which he may possibly be a member of) says she's never heard of him keeping someone around as long as he's had Leto. In fact, despite being his attendant, Alpha refuses to let him do any of the expected attendant work, as much of it consists of mundane things like maintaining his weapons for him and acting as his alarm clock/dressing him/etc, things he'd much rather do himself. (He'll let him carry heavy loads for him though.) He tends not to bother with explanations either, like when he attacked a little girl without telling Leto why, thus initiating a swordfight. He knows perfectly well he's hard to get along with, and doesn't do a single thing to fix that.
Despite the lazy, uncaring better-than-you attitude he tends to show people, Alpha occasionally reveals a caring side, even if it's not an especially kind one. On that previously mentioned mansion mission for example, he tries to stop the old man from immolating himself and his mother in a blazing mansion inferno. At least, he tries telling him to stop. Another example might be when a little girl named Seneca challenges him to a duel in order to avenge the deaths of her father and the rest of her tribe. He accepts her challenge, taking care of all the official arrangements himself and paying most of the fee (duels are government-sanctioned fights to the death, and are very expensive to get permission for), then uses the duel itself as an excuse to 'accidentally' kill one of the government officials who'd originally ordered the eradication of Seneca's tribe. (It was discovered that their reason for getting rid of all those people had been because they wouldn't pay money to the government.) In doing so, he not only helps her properly avenge everybody, he also gets a fight and one less corrupt official. In fact, he seems to quite dislike lying officials like that, as can be seen from the horribly malicious aura he exudes when he hears of that particular official's crimes. Lastly, Leto's constantly wanting to help people eventually got to him - the kid even tried to save a serial killer! - and so he promised him (secretly) that he'd stop killing people.
Alpha is quite observant as well. He pays close attention to his surroundings and the situation, even when he looks like he's not paying attention at all, and as such knows quite a lot about what may be going on and when/where/how to counteract it if needed. Unlike Leto, who tried to go in and fight when he learned of why Seneca's family had been killed, Alpha quietly planned out a covert operation that ended in the death of the Deputy Director of the Court of Justice. When a murderer who specialized in poison appeared in the mercenary fort, he did research and figured out who it was; also, since the murderer had appeared two years before, he'd picked up seeds during a previous mission and planted the antidote in the fort's garden, just in case they returned.
Have you read up on how the game works?: The Guide plug-in is called FlamingFerret, and you can earn money through missions, freelance work and mooching.
1st person sample: [The video turns on to show a man who looks distinctly unimpressed with his fancy new technological gadget. In fact, he may even look a little annoyed. Or is it tired? It's hard to tell.] This thing's working, right? [Well the light's flashing, so he'll assume it is.
Ahem.] Anybody here heard of Transbal? It'd be nice to know I'm not the only survivor from the total destruction of the planet. [That sounded vaguely depressing. There's a pause before he turns away from the screen, as if bored with it, and looks around at the area he's in.] If I'm going to be stuck here, I hope this place is worth all that paperwork I did.
3rd person sample: Don't Panic. It might have been good advice, if Alpha were the type to panic. He stared at the book for a moment, turning it around in his hands. It wasn't much to look at, really, though it was at least more interesting than the towel he'd been given. Neither of the items was worth all that paperwork he'd had to fill out though. Was anything worth all those forms? They'd seemed incredibly pointless when he was filling them out. But apparently they were worth something if those creatures were so set on him answering every last question on them.
There was an emptiness to the hall he was standing in that bothered him. Empty, like the space where his home used to be. The guild was gone, and the city, and the Turana clan, and everyone he knew. Had anyone else survived? Was he the only one who'd been lucky (or unlucky, maybe) enough to get picked up by this...ship? He frowned at the thought. Too much pessimism. If he was going to think that way he should either do something about it or accept things and move on. Shouldn't be too hard. And if anybody he knew happened to show up, he could treat them just like usual. No problem. In the meantime, there was a whole new place to explore, strange sights to see, maybe even people he could spar with.
He gripped the book a little harder and continued down the hall.
Questions?: None!
