Gensopedia, Suikosource
[ Personality ] :
Jacques is, first and foremost, a very quiet person. He rarely ever speaks unless directly addressed, and even then tends to say very little. His lack of things to say doesn't imply a lack of thought, though; he's very observant, finding little details others wouldn't normally notice (like pointing out that the soldiers they saw had no footsteps) and occasionally even makes dry jokes, though that's incredibly rare. He's about as calm as he looks, with an almost always expressionless face; whether he's fighting or having fun, he doesn't betray any emotion. Aside from that, Jacques cares about people. Not just those close to him, but people in general. There are multiple times throughout the game (and the manga too, if that counts) in which he helps Aila, comforts her, or generally tries to keep her hopes up, and there are various scenes in which he offers help to others or expresses negative feelings about other people's getting hurt. He prefers not to draw attention to himself though, so if someone doesn't know he helped them or asks a question referring to it, he won't say anything about it.
Another point of note is that Jacques is simple and somewhat childish in his tastes. He likes spending time with children, he likes playing with dogs (to some extent), and he refuses to drink alcohol, preferring sweeter things like orange juice and soda. Despite his technically being an adult, when asked about women he awkwardly replies that he's new to that sort of thing, and he's possibly the only one of the 12th Unit to actually like Ace's stories. He isn't against the occasional fight, too; when first visiting the Lizard Clan, he comments on how boring it was that they were let in so easily. Also, because of his untalkativeness, he tends to prefer cutting straight to the point whenever he does say something.
While the 12th Unit spends a lot of time in various towns and cities, Jacques is really more of a nature person. He tends to find trees more comfortable to sleep in than actual beds, and he often wanders off when the group stops in scenic areas. Occasionally this means he'll forget the time, like when he was off admiring the ocean at Budehuc and hadn't realized his friends were preparing to leave.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Jacques is very good at using a bowgun, and is tough enough to withstand a good amount of damage in battle, though he's also better at dodging than one might think with such an unwieldy weapon. He's pretty good at hiding, often disappearing from sight when nobody's looking. He's also someone who can keep his calm in pretty much any situation, and is very kind and caring to people, as can be shown with Aila.
As for weaknesses, it's just a little hard to carry a giant bowgun around, and so Jacques' ability to move is a little hindered when fighting, making him somewhat of an easy target for enemies. He's got relatively average skills in magic, and as an archer he's not exactly the strongest guy around. His silence makes him seem somewhat unpredictable, possibly giving people the impression he's strange or even slow, since he rarely gives explanations for what he does and he barely ever speaks up. He's also a horrible actor.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Jacques is the secret mysterious sixth member of Koroku's five-dog team! Not really.
[ Sample ] :
Jacques was wet. Very wet. This wouldn't have been a problem if it weren't for the fact his heavy jacket felt heavier than usual and quite uncomfortable from having soaked up so much water. To make things worse, he had no idea where he'd woken up. Possibly he'd run into Viki and she'd sneezed or something; though he couldn't remember anything like that having happened. And it felt too real to be a dream. He would have said he didn't mind being here, but...it was hard to feel entirely comfortable when a glance around made him feel as if he'd somehow ended up at the bottom of the ocean or something. Sure, he liked the sea breeze and the view of the sea, but down here that didn't quite apply. Admittedly he did sort of like the view though, now that he took the time to stare.
Of course, it would be nice to know where he was, or how he'd gotten here in the first place, but the few people he'd spoken to so far had given him nothing but a name he didn't recognize and the little floating thing that kept following him wouldn't say anything at all. What was Vatheon? Was that in another continent maybe? How long had he been here, anyway? Geddoe and the others must have noticed he was gone by now...and he had no way of contacting them that he could see. Would they worry about him? He could take care of himself, so they probably wouldn't. Not unless he didn't come back.
...He should probably find a way to get to Budehuc, at least. Or maybe Caleria was a better idea...except for the fact he didn't know how to get to either of those places from...wherever he was. He gave out a quiet, tired sigh then at his confusing situation and slowly trudged forwards. He'd find a way out eventually, right..?
